  1. Using the data in exercise 1.14, construct a Pareto diagram for the endangered wildlife species outside the US. Include the polygon in your diagram. What does your diagram indicate?

  2. A survey has collected the following data of the monthly consumption of some groceries by the households in Kingston: (in dollars)

    24, 19, 20, 22, 28, 32, 34, 36, 39, 40, 43, 45, 48, 48, 50, 51, 52, 52, 52, 53, 55, 58, 59, 60, 62, 66, 68, 70.


  1. Construct a table of frequency, relative frequency, cumulative frequency and relative cumulative frequency distribution of the data.

  2. Draw a histogram and an ogive.

  3. Draw a stem-and-leaf display.

  4. Estimate population mean and standard deviation using original data.

  5. Estimate population mean and standard deviation using grouped data.

  6. From your estimations in parts e and f, which ones are more accurate?

  7. Calculate coefficient of variation.

  8. Derive range, interquartile range, median and mode of the data.
